What is mindfulness ?
Mindfulness is the act of paying attention, in the present, on purpose
and nonjudgmentally. It is the opposite of being on "automatic pilot". Born in the East many centuries ago, it was
brought to the West by Vietnamese Zen Master, poet, scholar and human rights activits Thich Nhat Hanh in the early 70's.
It further expanded in non Buddhist environment and was demystified by the American medical doctor Jon Kabat-Zinn who
based a new family of therapeutical treatments on the various component of the mindfulness practice (see MBSR Jon Kabat-Zinn).
To practice mindfulness, you do not need to cultivate or develop any particular belief or change creed system.
As such, when we refer to 'mindfulness' on this website, we mean the process and attitude that one can cultivate
to be fully alive and present.
What is Mindfulness
at Work?
It is a project
that we have initiated to promote mindfulness in the bank where we work. It started in 2005 and is offering several courses.
By chossing this name, we wanted to play on the words and use the double meaning. First, it designates the simple fact that
the practice is happening in a working environment. Second, it refers to the practice itself, namely being mindful.
